Recently I've been looking for something special in the chutney world and I have made some interesting discoveries over the past year. One of which is the delightful and interesting Crusty Pie Company's Flaming Hot Chutney.
Flaming Hot Chutney from The Crusty Pie Company, Honley Show 2007 The chutney has a rich fruity flavour and features a sweet tomatoey body. While the chutney was not exactly a conflagration it did pack a sneaky zip of a kick in the after taste. I suppose after the likes of Gringley Gringo's Bastardo my tongue demands a stronger punch with spicey dishes. But the surprise kick of Crusty Pie Company's Flaming Hot Chutney means it too joins the ranks of Badger Preserves' Bombay Chutney and Gringo's Fiery Hot Chutney in my personal top 5 favorite chutneys. I ate this chutney with one of The Crusty Pie Company's crusty pork and apple stuffing pies. It definatley made a perfect accompanyment to the meal and, in follow up tests with a ham sandwich, Crusty Pie Company's Flaming Hot Chutney comes up trumps with both flavour and consistancy. So while not exactly flaming or, for that matter, hot, Flaming Hot Chutney makes a perfect accompanyment for a salad, pie or ham sandwich with out the over powering burn some hot chutneys provide. Overall 9/10 for flavour and flexibility - More like this please! Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts) |
